NGC Featured Registry Set: American Liberty High Relief Gold
Posted on 9/17/2024
US coin collectors everywhere were delighted to hear the recent big news in numismatics. In an award ceremony at the ANA’s World Fair of Money in August, the much-anticipated announcement was made for the 2024 Coin of the Year. The recipient went to the 2023 High Relief Gold $100 American Liberty coin. In recognition of the great artistry and symbolism behind this iconic coin, we present a top-ranked NGC Registry set, Reed's High Relief Gold Liberty's, found here.
J Reed’s set includes a perfect NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo example of the award-winning 2023 coin, which also grabbed top honors as the best gold coin in the 2024 COTY vote. Every other coin in his set is a sharp, clean Top Pop NGC 70, as well. This set type is not one of quantity (as it holds just six coins/slots right now), but it is one of quality. The American Liberty Gold series is a true tribute to America’s history and heritage through impressive numismatic design.
J Reed is 100% complete with his set, and he offers key, concise comments about every coin. With his 2017 coin, for example, he provides: “2017 Coin of the Year Award Winner for ‘Best Gold Coin’…The 2017 American Liberty High Relief $100.00 Gold coin was released by the US Mint on April 6, 2017. The release day price was $1,640.00; the price of gold was $1,251.59...”
With more than 300 participating sets, this American Liberty Series Coinage, 2015-Date, Complete set type is the third most popular set in the Modern Special Issues category in the NGC Registry. We thank you, J Reed, for being a major presence in the NGC Registry. This collector boasts over 549,000 cumulative NGC Registry points in over 50 competitive sets. Be sure to check out his other impressive sets, many of them also ranked No. 1, here.

Would you like your set to be featured in a future article? 100% completion in a set is not always feasible. Perhaps we will choose someone whose set has a personal story behind it or some interesting historical facts. We are looking for those sets where someone has taken the time to make the set unique and a reflection of his or her personal collecting style. It may be your set! Stay tuned.
