Highly Prized Specimen Certified by PMG Offered in Crown Currency Sale
Posted on 8/15/2024
Hundreds of banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and dozens of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are being offered in a Crown Currency sale. Bidding is already underway for the Crown Currency Live Auction 31 - Banknotes & Coins, which focuses on rarities from the Netherlands and its former colonies and is being held on August 30, 2024.
A top PMG-graded highlight in the sale is a Netherlands Indies 1968 100 Gulden Specimen graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 196). Interestingly, at the time this Specimen was printed, it was given a date well into the future: 1968. In 1951, the newly independent Indonesian government nationalized Javasche Bank, which was later renamed Bank Indonesia in 1953. This intricate note has become extremely popular with collectors through the years due to its historical significance and the attractive engravings throughout its design. Of this particular catalog number, only two examples have higher grades in the PMG Population Report.
