Posted on 8/6/2024
Collectors will enjoy perusing hundreds of world coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) and world banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) offered in the A. Karamitsos auction series, which includes Part A and Part B on September 21-22, 2024. Most of the lots are from Mediterranean nations, including the top lot, a group of PMG-certified Cyprus rarities.
The four Cyprus Specimen banknotes include a 1955-60 250 Mils, a 1955-57 500 Mils, a 1955 1 Pound and a 1955-60 5 Pounds, each graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Part A, lot 06804), with a starting price of €12,000 (about $13,000). Specimen banknotes are important both for collectors and the banking system, helping its employees identify genuine currency in circulation. These notes date to the time when decades of British rule of the island in the far eastern Mediterranean was nearing its end.
