Hundreds of Lots Certified by PMG and NGC in Karamitsos Auction

The auction series on September 21-22 includes a set of four Cyprus Specimen notes.

Collectors will enjoy perusing hundreds of world coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) and world banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) offered in the A. Karamitsos auction series, which includes Part A and Part B on September 21-22, 2024. Most of the lots are from Mediterranean nations, including the top lot, a group of PMG-certified Cyprus rarities.

The four Cyprus Specimen banknotes include a 1955-60 250 Mils, a 1955-57 500 Mils, a 1955 1 Pound and a 1955-60 5 Pounds, each graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Part A, lot 06804), with a starting price of €12,000 (about $13,000). Specimen banknotes are important both for collectors and the banking system, helping its employees identify genuine currency in circulation. These notes date to the time when decades of British rule of the island in the far eastern Mediterranean was nearing its end.

Other NGC- and PMG-certified highlights of this auction series include:

  • a Yugoslavia, National Bank 1936 10,000 Dinara graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Part B, lot 07610) with a starting price of €3,600 (about $3,900)
  • a Greece 1830 10 Lepta graded NGC VF 35 BN (Part A, lot 06017) with a starting price of €1,900 (about $2,100)
  • an Ionian Islands 1819 2 Obols graded NGC PF 63 BN (Part A, lot 06455) with a starting price of €1,500 (about $1,700)
  • a Greece, National Bank 1921-22 1,000 Drachmai graded PMG 25 Very Fine (Part A, lot 06533) with a starting price of €1,400 (about $1,500)
  • a Greece, National Bank 1926 100 Drachmai graded PMG 58 Choice About Uncirculated EPQ (Part A, lot 06538) with a starting price of €1,200 (about $1,300)
  • a Greece 1942 25,000 Drachmai Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (Part A, lot 06744) with a starting price of €1,000 (about $1,100)
  • a France 2011 Jacques Cartier Gold 50 Euro graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (Part B, lot 07063) with a starting price of €500 (about $500)
  • a group of six Bermuda, Monetary Authority 2009 notes (2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Dollars) graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ to PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 68 EPQ (Part B, lot 07861) with a starting price of €500 (about $500)
  • a Great Britain 1871 1 Sovereign - Sheild graded NGC UNC Details (Part B, lot 07127) with a starting price of €480 (about $500)
