Rare Coins and Notes Certified by NGC and PMG in Trigometric Auction

A rare Specimen note and a sought-after gold coin are among the rarities from Malaysia and beyond in a Trigometric auction featuring hundreds of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) and banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®). The July 2024 Auction is divided into two parts, with coins and banknotes offered in Session 1 on July 13, and banknotes offered in Session 2 on July 14, 2024.

The top note in the auction is a Malaya & British Borneo 1961 10 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated EPQ (Session 1, lot 2232). The PMG Population Report includes only eight examples of this rare Specimen note; the one in this sale has an estimate of RM50,000 to RM80,000 (about $11,000 to $17,000).

Other PMG-certified highlights in the sale include:

• a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1972-76) 100 Ringgit with a Solid-1 Serial Number graded PMG 20 Very Fine (Session 1, lot 2077), which has an estimate of RM30,000 to RM50,000 (about $6,400 to $11,000)
• a Malaya & British Borneo 1961 10 Dollars graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (Session 1, lot 2231), which has an estimate of RM36,000 to RM50,000 (about $7,600 to $11,000)
• a Straits Settlements / British Administration 1935 5 Dollars graded PMG 30 Very Fine (Session 1, lot 2164), which has an estimate of RM24,000 to RM40,000 (about $5,100 to $8,500)
• a Straits Settlements / British Administration ND (1925-30) 5 Dollars graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (Session 1, lot 2165), which has an estimate of RM20,000 to RM40,000 (about $4,200 to $8,500)
• a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1989) 500 Ringgit Specimen graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Session 1, lot 2126), which has an estimate of RM20,000 to RM30,000 (about $4,200 to $6,400)
• a Malaya / British Administration 1940 1 Dollar graded PMG 20 Very Fine NET (Session 1, lot 2200), which has an estimate of RM15,000 - RM30,000 (about $3,200 to $6,400)

Meanwhile, the top coin in the auction is a Malaysia 1976 500 Ringgit - Malayan Tapir graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (Session 2, lot 1407). This coin celebrates the Malayan Tapir, an endangered species with a population of only a few thousand in the wild. The coin itself is also rare, from a mintage of just over 500, and of the 96 examples in the NGC Census, only 11 have a higher grade than this example. It has an estimate of RM40,000 to RM60,000 (about $8,500 to $13,000).

• a Malaysia 1985CHI Gold 250 Ringgit - Women's Decade graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (Session 2, lot 1413), with an estimate of RM4,400 to RM9,000 (about $900 to $1,900)
• a China 1908 Silver Dollar graded NGC XF Details (Session 2, lot 1099), with an estimate of RM5,600 to RM8,000 (about $1,200 to $1,700)
• a Malaysia 1971 5 Ringgit graded NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo (Session 2, lot 1307), with an estimate of RM6,000 to RM8,000 (about $1,300 to $1,700)
