NGC Registry Featured Set: American Women Quarters

Posted on 3/12/2024

The current series of US quarters is worth exploring as we celebrate Women's History Month.

The US Mint has begun releasing the much-anticipated coins for the 2024 American Women Quarters™ program. As US Mint Director Ventris Gibson aptly stated: “All of the women being honored…have made a significant impact on our Nation in their own unique way…By honoring these pioneering women, the Mint continues to connect America through coins, which are like small works of art in your pocket.”

The honorees are as follows, and the Proof Set was offered for sale starting on February 27:

  • Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray: poet, writer, lawyer and Episcopal priest
  • Honorable Patsy Takemoto Mink: the first woman of color to serve in Congress and a key figure in Title IX legislation
  • Dr. Mary Edwards Walker: Civil War-era surgeon and women’s rights advocate
  • Celia Cruz: Cuban-American singer and one of the most popular Latin artists of the 20th century
  • Zitkala-Ša: writer, composer, educator and political activist for Native American rights in the early 20th century

This modern coin program is popular in the NGC Registry, and as such, this month, we feature an American Women Quarters, 2022-2025, Mint State set by lcs1129, found here. This set type currently has 162 participants, and lcs1129 just recently climbed his way to the coveted #1 spot. This set boasts images for all coins, the majority of which are NGC Top Pops, including this 2022-D Maya Angelou:

Competition is tight in this set; several top participants possess all necessary coins through 2023 — 30 to be exact. The point differential between first, second and third place is less than 100 points! With the 2024 slots recently added, there are 15 more coins to be acquired as they are released. Who knows what the Top Pop grade will be for the 2024 coins, and how many will be available in the marketplace? The 2024 race for first place is on with these new 2024 quarters!
