Trigometric Offers Southeast Asia Rarities Graded by NGC and PMG

Posted on 3/12/2024

A vintage Straits Settlements banknote and a modern Malaysia tapir gold coin are among the certified items in the auction on April 6-7.

Trigometric is presenting an auction featuring hundreds of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) and banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®). The auction, called An Extraordinary Collection of Straits Settlements, Malaya, Malaysia and World Banknotes & Coins, is divided into two parts, with coins and banknotes offered in Session 1 on April 6, and banknotes offered in Session 2 on April 7, 2024.

Among the PMG highlights is a Straits Settlements / British Administration 1925 50 Dollars graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated (lot 2759) with an estimate of RM80,000 to RM200,000 (about $17,000 to $43,000). The significant face value didn't shield these notes from extensive circulation in commerce. This particular note earned a strong grade of PMG 55 About Uncirculated, the second highest in the PMG Population Report. Beneath the note, PMG also encapsulated a 1974 article about the note’s sale, highlighting collectors’ longtime interest in Straits Settlements currency.
