Transylvanian Rarity Certified by NGC Offered in Maison Palombo Auction

A wide range of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) from around the globe are being offered in an upcoming Maison Palombo sale. Online bidding is already underway for Auction 23, which will be held March 27, 2024.

The top NGC-certified lot in the sale is a Hungary 1695KV Transylvania 10 Ducats graded NGC MS 63 (lot 790), with a starting price of CHF 140,000 (about $159,000). This gold coin struck for Transylvania features the bust of Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I, whose rule from 1654 to 1705 was the longest of any Habsburg emperor. During his reign, the Holy Roman Empire was able to consolidate its control over Transylvania, which had been a vassal state of the Ottoman Empire. There are only four examples of this particular coin in the NGC Census, with only one in a higher grade.

• a Roman Empire Crispina (AD 177-182/3) Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients MS, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface (lot 49), with a starting price of CHF 30,000 (about $34,100)
• a Venezuela 1889 1/2 Bolivar graded NGC XF 40 (lot 834), with a starting price of CHF 30,000 (about $34,100)
• an Austria 1655 Salzburg Gold 5 Ducat graded NGC MS 61 (lot 160), with a starting price of CHF 24,000 (about $27,300)
• a Germany 1717 Bavaria 2 Maximilian d'Or graded NGC AU 58+ (lot 121), with a starting price of CHF 22,000 (about $25,000)
