Nomisma Offering More than 200 NGC-certified Vintage Coins in March Auction
Posted on 2/28/2024
More than 200 coins and medals certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are being offered in an upcoming Nomisma sale. Online bidding for Auction #69, which is focused on rarities from Italy, is already underway and will conclude March 23-24, 2024.
The top NGC-certified lot in the sale is an Italy Genoa 1642 5 Doppie graded NGC MS 66 (lot 1134), with a starting price of €150,000 (about $162,800). This Italian rarity dates back to the rich history of gold coinage in Genoa during the 17th century, when Genoese banker-financiers funded many of the Spanish crown's foreign endeavors. The gold coin's obverse features an image of Madonna and child on a cloud, while the reverse shows a large flat-end cross with 6-pointed stars. There are only two examples of this historic coin in the NGC Census, with this particular coin being the finer.
