NGC-certified Vintage Chinese Coins Are Top Highlights in Spink Hong Kong Sales
Posted on 1/10/2024
Over 100 coins from China and elsewhere that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®), are available in Spink’s Chinese Banknotes and Coins auction on January 20, and the World, Macau and Hong Kong Coins and Banknotes auction on January 21, 2024.
The top NGC-certified coin in these auctions is a China 1906 2 Mace L&M-18 Restrike graded NGC MS 65 and pedigreed to the D&C Capital Collection (lot 298), with an estimate of HKD 380,000 to 650,000 (about $49,000 to $83,000).
While this particular coin was minted after the indicated date, it remarkably exhibits minimal wear to the die. There are 10 examples listed in the NGC Census, but only one has a higher grade than this one. Although this issue was never officially circulated, its design elements have left an indelible mark, heavily influencing the 1908 imperial release.
