NGC-certified Italian Coin Realizes Nearly $300,000 in Numismatica Ranieri Auction

A 19th century rarity certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) has just become one of the most valuable Italian coins ever sold at auction. The coin showing Victor Emmanuel II led the way in Numismatica Ranieri's Auction 18 on November 4-5, 2023.
The Italy 1864T BN 50 Lire graded NGC MS 61 (lot 750) realized €271,200 (about $291,000). This coin bears the portrait of Victor Emmanuel II, who became the first king of a united Italy in 1861. His reign marked the culmination of decades of struggle and diplomacy to unite the fragmented Italian states into a single nation, making him a symbol of Italian nationalism and a revered figure in Italian history. This particular coin has the third-highest grade of the eight examples in the NGC Census.

- an Ireland 1927 Penny - Morbiducci Prova - Copper graded NGC PF 64 RB (lot 940), which realized €13,560 (about $15,000)
- an Austria 1908 100 Corona - 60th Anniversary of Reign graded NGC PF 60 (lot 828), which realized €10,170 (about $11,000)
- an Italy 1868R XXII Papal States Gold 50 Lire graded NGC MS 65 (lot 514), which realized €9,322 (about $10,000)
- an Italy 1891R 50 Lire graded NGC MS 61 (lot 773), which realized €5,085 (about $5,500)
- an Italy 1772 Tuscany 3 Zecchini graded NGC AU 58 (lot 325), which realized €1,808 (about $1,900)
