Posted on 10/26/2023

Some of the most valuable coins in Russian numismatics were among 11 rarities that realized six figures each in an October 2023 auction.

Eleven coins and medals certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) realized six-figure prices in the SINCONA Auction 84: Russian Coins and Medals sale. Some of the most sought-after rarities in Russian numismatics were featured in the sale on October 23, 2023.

The top lot in the sale was a Russia 1827CNB HT 25 Kopecks Silver Pattern graded NGC MS 63 and pedigreed to the Soedermann Collection (lot 270). It realized 840,000 CHF (about $936,700). Dating back to the earliest years of Emperor Nicholas I's reign of Russia from 1825 to 1855, the coin stems from the beginning of the 25 Kopecks series. Equivalent to a Quarter Rouble, this particular coin is the only example in the NGC Census.

Like the previous ultra-rare Russian coin, this Quarter Rouble is also pedigreed to the Soedermann Collection and is the only example in the NGC Census.
