Rare Italian coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®), including one valued well into the six figures, are being offered in Numismatica Ranieri's Auction 18 on November 4-5, 2023.
Featured in this auction is an Italy 1864T BN 50 Lire graded NGC MS 61 (lot 750) with starting price of €150,000 (about $158,000). Struck in gold, this coin bears the portrait of Victor Emmanuel II, who became the first King of a united Italy in 1861. Known as the "Father of the Fatherland," his reign marked the culmination of decades of struggle and diplomacy to unite the fragmented Italian states into a single nation, making him a symbol of Italian nationalism and a revered figure in Italian history.
