SINCONA Offers Ultra-rare Russian Coins Certified by NGC

Posted on 10/5/2023

The October auction features two of the most valuable Russian coins known.

Two of the most valuable coins known to Russian numismatics are among over 150 rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) being offered in an upcoming SINCONA sale. Bidding is already underway for SINCONA Auction 84: Russian Coins and Medals, which will be held October 23, 2023.

The top lot in the auction is a Russia 1827CNB HT 25 Kopecks Silver Pattern graded NGC MS 63 and pedigreed to the Soedermann Collection (lot 270). A pattern is a proposed design for a coin, and this one dates to the beginning of the series of 25 Kopecks, which is equivalent to a Quarter Rouble. It was struck near the beginning of the 29-year reign of Emperor Nicholas I. The only example in the NGC Census, it has a starting price of 500,000 CHF (about $540,000).

Another top highlight in the auction is a Russia 1808CNB OT Quarter Rouble graded NGC MS 61 (lot 214), which has a starting price of 250,000 CHF (about $270,000). Like the 1827 coin, it is also pedigreed to the Soedermann Collection and last appeared at auction a decade ago, when both coins realized seven-figure amounts.
