NGC-graded Auto Dollars in the Driver's Seat in October Heritage Auction
Posted on 9/12/2023
A pair of Auto Dollars are among 400 rare world and ancient coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) being offered in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale. Bidding is already underway for the Autumn Hong Kong World Coins Showcase Auction, which will be held on October 1, 2023.
The coins driving the most interest are the Auto Dollars, and three weeks before the auction, the China YR17 (1928) Kweichow Auto Dollar graded NGC AU Details (lot 21159) was leading all bidding. These coins were struck to celebrate the construction of a major highway in Kweichow (today called Guizhou, a southern Chinese province). Their unconventional design showing an automobile makes them a favorite among enthusiasts of Chinese numismatics. The sale also features another Auto Dollar of the L&M-609 variety, this one graded NGC VF 35 (lot 21160).
Other NGC-certified highlights in the auction include:
- a China 1988 5-ounce Gold 500 Yuan - Year of the Dragon graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (lot 21333)
- a Switzerland 1848 Geneva 5 Francs graded NGC MS 63 (lot 21676)
