Polish Auction Offers Hundreds of NGC-certified World and Ancient Coins

The June Antykwariat Numizmatyczny Michal Niemczyk auction includes rare coins from Poland and elsewhere in Europe.

A vintage Polish rarity is among hundreds of world and ancient coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) that are available in an upcoming Antykwariat Numizmatyczny Michal Niemczyk sale. Bidding is already underway for Auction 39, which will take place June 24-27, 2023.

The top NGC-certified coin in the sale is a Poland 1659 HL Thorn 5 Ducat graded NGC UNC Details (Session I, lot 706), with a starting price of 220,000 PLN (about $53,600). The obverse of the coin depicts the Polish King John II Casimir Vasa, while the reverse shows a panorama of the city of Thorn (also known as Torun), where the coin was minted. This is the only example in the NGC Census.

Other NGC-certified highlights in the auction include:

  • a Poland 1928 Nickel 5 Zlotych graded NGC MS 63 (Session II, lot 2832) that has a starting price of 20,000 PLN (about $4,800)
  • a Poland 1930 Revolution - High Relief 5 Zlotych graded NGC MS 62 (Session II, lot 2678) that has a starting price of 15,000 PLN (about $3,600)
  • a Poland 1933 Silver Proba 10 Zlotych graded NGC MS 61 (Session II, lot 2828) that has a starting price of 10,000 PLN (about $2,400)
  • a Poland 1989MW Gold John Paul II 10,000 Zlotych graded NGC MS 69 (Session II, lot 2880) that has a starting price of 8,800 PLN (about $2,100)
  • an Attica, Athens c.440-404 BC Silver Tetradrachm graded NGC Ancients Ch AU, 4/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface (Session III, lot 4001) that has a starting price of 5,000 PLN (about $1,200)
  • a Poland 1996MW Gdansk Millennium Gold 200 Zlotych graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo (Session II, lot 2883) that has a starting price of 4,800 PLN (about $1,100)
  • a Poland 1988MW John Paul II 10th Anniversary Gold 5,000 Zlotych graded NGC PF 66 Ultra Cameo (Session II, lot 2881) that has a starting price of 4,600 PLN (about $1,100)
  • a Germany 1544 Taler graded NGC XF 45 (Session II, lot 2443) that has a starting price of 4,000 PLN (about $970)
  • a Poland 1614 Danzig 1/4 Taler graded NGC MS 63 (Session I, lot 598) that has a starting price of 3,000 PLN (about $730)
