NGC Certifies Historic Royal Mint Sets of Gold and Silver Coins with King Charles III Effigy

Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) is honored to have been chosen by The Royal Mint to certify the coins in two extraordinary sets featuring the first effigy of King Charles III. These stunning Proof coins are each encapsulated with a special NGC Signature Label that was hand-signed by Martin Jennings, the designer of The Royal Mint's King Charles III effigy.

The sets include a 2022 coin that memorializes Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her long reign, as well as a 2023 coin issued to commemorate the coronation of her son, King Charles III. The 2022 coin is notable for being the United Kingdom's first to show an effigy of an uncrowned King Charles III, while the 2023 coins are the first to show him crowned. The historic coronation of Charles III took place on May 6, 2023, as he succeeded his mother, who had ruled for 70 years.

This is the first time The Royal Mint has created sets of these Charles III coins. Only 500 Silver Proof Effigy Sets featuring £2 coins and only 75 Gold Proof Effigy Sets featuring £100 coins are being issued. The coins were independently evaluated by NGC and earned the highest grade on the NGC Grading Scale. The NGC Signature Labels were hand-signed by Jennings, the designer whose effigy was personally approved by the new king. These special labels also include The Royal Mint's logo, which identifies it as "The Original Maker."
