NGC Featured Registry Set: Tudor Beasts
Posted on 5/16/2023
For May, we present a fierce NGC Registry set with majestic beasts and mythical figures. Whimsical in nature and steeped in centuries of British history, the Great Britain Tudor Beasts, 2022-Date, Complete (No Gold) set is not to be missed. Currently sitting comfortably in first place with almost 12,000 points is CKWONG’s set. These silver coins depict the magnificent Tudor beasts, which gained prominence during the Tudor reign of Henry VIII in the 1500s. Henry VIII built a commanding line of statues at the new Moat Bridge to wow his visitors and most likely to remind them of his authority.

The eventual remodeling of the palace included filling the moat, and sadly, Henry’s beasts were sacrificed in the process. In 1909, excavation of the site revealed the beasts were too far gone for repairs to occur, but a London artist, George Wilson, recreated the beasts in their full splendor. Fast forward to the present and experienced collection artist, David Lawrence, recreated the magnificent beasts in coin designs for the Royal Mint.
With names like Lion of England, Seymour Panther and Yale of Beaufort, it's more than worth taking a moment to check out the characters and artistry celebrated with these coins. CKWONG's set is 85% complete and boasts Top Pop for the majority of his coins; be sure to check out his 100% complete photo gallery.
