Rare NGC-certified Coins and PMG-certified Notes from India Offered in Marudhar Arts Sale

Many rare numismatic collectibles certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) or Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are available in Marudhar Arts’ Auction #38 on February 25, 2023. The auction is being held in conjunction with the 14th National Numismatic Exhibition in Bangalore, India.
Among the most interesting NGC-certified coins in the auction is this India 1939(B) Rupee - Reeded Edge graded NGC MS 62 (lot 416), with an estimate of 600,000 to 700,000 INR (about $7,300 to $8,500). This silver rupee comes from the Bombay Mint and displays an image of King George VI. There are 29 examples of this key date in the NGC Census, with a mere three graded higher.
Other NGC-certified coins in this auction include:
- an India AH1042//6 Mughal Mohur –, Shah Jahan, Akbarabad graded NGC VF 35 (lot 129) with an estimate of 450,000 to 550,000 INR (about $5,400 to $6,600)
- an India AM1221//11 Mysore Pagoda - Patan, Tipu Sultan graded NGC MS 65 (lot 181) with an estimate of 60,000 to 70,000 INR (about $700 to $800)
- an India (1911-36) Rupee graded NGC Mint Error AU 58 – Brockage on Reverse (lot 619) with an estimated value between 30,000 and 40,000 INR (about $360 to $480)
- an India 1906(C) Bronze 1/12 Anna graded NGC MS 62 RB (lot 288) with an estimate of 25,000 to 30,000 INR (about $300 to $360)
- an India 1862(B) Rupee graded NGC MS 62 (lot 374) with an estimated value between 25,000 and 28,000 INR (about $300 to $340)
Among the top PMG-certified notes in the auction is this India / British Administration ND (1917-30) 100 Rupees graded PMG 25 Very Fine (lot 517), with an estimate of 325,000 to 350,000 INR (about $3,900 to $4,200). It features an image of King George V, a grandson of Queen Victoria who ruled the United Kingdom until his death in 1936. There are only 15 examples of this catalog number in the PMG Population Report of this rare banknote.
