Stack’s Bowers Offers Stunning Greek Rarity Graded by NGC Ancients

Ancient coin collectors have a chance to own an extremely rare gold coin offered by Stack’s Bowers and certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®). The coin is one of over 200 certified by NGC Ancients in the Stack’s Bowers January 2023 NYINC Auction - Session A, which will be held January 13, 2023. Bidding is already underway.
The top ancient coin in the auction is a Bosporus, Panticapaeum, c. 340-320 BC Gold Stater graded NGC Ancients AU, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface with Fine Style (lot 20073). From a Greek colony in modern-day Crimea, the coin's obverse features either the bust of Silenus or Pan from Greek mythology. The reverse has an image of a griffin holding a spear in its mouth as it stands on a stalk of grain. This coin is a premium example of its type, making it a top-end Greek rarity with an estimate of $150,000 to $175,000.
