Posted on 12/23/2022

A rare 1916 Hung Hsien Silver Dollar is the star of the show.

A great Chinese rarity expected to sell for over $100,000 is among hundreds of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) in a Spink sale. The Chinese Banknotes and Coins Auction (which includes CSS86A and CSS86C) is being held on January 7-8, 2023.

All eyes are on the China 1916 Hung Hsien Silver Dollar graded NGC AU 58 (CSS86A, lot 425) with an estimate of 1,000,000 HKD to 1,500,000 HKD (about $128,000 to $192,000). This commemorative features an image of Yuan Shih Kai, who ruled China from 1912 until his death in 1916. This particular variety, with the plume of the hat nearly touching the edge of the coin, is rare.
