2022 NGC Registry Awards to be Announced January 6, 2023

Posted on 12/13/2022

It's almost time for the 2022 NGC Registry Awards, where the greatest Registry collectors will be recognized for their achievements.

The NGC Registry awards are an annual cycle, but for many collectors, assembling an award-worthy collection takes years, decades or even a lifetime. For these collectors, an NGC Registry Award is only the icing on the cake. The 2022 winners will be announced on Friday, January 6, 2023, and all NGC Registry participants are invited to a reception at the FUN Convention in Orlando, Florida.

At the reception (invitations sent via email on December 12, 2022), hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served, and attendees will receive a door prize and be able to participate in a raffle for additional prizes. Meanwhile, NGC Registry staff and experts from NGC will be on hand to discuss topics in numismatics and the NGC Registry.

Throughout the FUN Show — being hosted from Thursday, January 5 to Sunday, January 8, 2023 — a unique collection of Cuban coins from long-time NGC Registry participant and well-known numismatic author and collector Emilio Ortiz will be on display at NGC booth #108. Ortiz has spent a lifetime assembling a cabinet of museum-quality Spanish, Spanish Colonial and Cuban coinage. Ortiz recently published a two-volume catalog, Spanish Colonial and Republican Cuartillos of the New World.

More than 50 collectors will be recognized for their achievements in the following major award categories: Overall Achievement, Best Classic Set, Best Modern Set, Best Presented Set, Best New Set, Best Custom Set, Most Creative Custom Set and Most Informative Custom Set.

NGC Registry staff and numismatic experts at NGC examine hundreds of sets each year, using various tools to find and establish nominees from the 280,000-plus sets in the NGC Registry. Watching these collections come together is like watching the years-long construction of a towering skyscraper, and the passion of NGC Registry collectors is reflected in their comments on their sets and their collecting journeys. Even for experts steeped in numismatics who encounter rare coins every day, participating in the NGC Registry Awards process is an invigorating experience.

The 2022 awards reception also means the start of the 2023 awards cycle. We encourage collectors to continue to work hard on their sets! Thank you to all the collectors who make the NGC Registry a fascinating treasure chest of numismatic wonders.
