Trigometric Offers Rarities from Southeast Asia Certified by PMG and NGC

The numismatic treasures in the December auction include a Malaysian banknote expected to sell for over $40,000.

Hundreds of rarities certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are being offered in an upcoming Trigometric sale. Bidding for the three sessions (Session 1, Session 2 and Session 3) is currently underway, with the sale’s sessions ending December 17-19, 2022.

The top single PMG-certified note in the sale is a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1972-76) 1,000 Ringgit graded PMG 55 About Uncirculated EPQ (Session 1, lot 1215). Out of 114 PMG-certified examples of this rare note, only 13 graded higher in the PMG Population Report. PMG has graded over 440,000 notes from Malaysia, the most of any country besides the US and China. This lot has an estimate of RM180,000 to RM300,000 (about $41,000 to $68,000).

Other PMG-certified highlights in the sale include:

  • a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976-81) 1,000 Ringgit Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (Session 1, lot 1153), with an estimate of RM100,000 to RM120,000 (about $23,000 to $27,000)
  • a Straits Settlements 1931-34 10 Dollars Specimen graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (Session 2, lot 2340), with an estimate of RM80,000 to RM110,000 (about $18,000 to $25,000)
  • a group of five Fiji Color Trial Specimens (ND 1957-65 5/- Shillings, 1957-65 10/- Shillings, 1954-67 1 Pound, 1954-67 5 Pounds and 1954-65 10 Pounds) graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ to PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (Session 3, lot 3603), with an estimate of RM80,000 to RM100,000 (about $18,000 to $23,000)

  • a China 1979 Year of the Child Gold 450 Yuan graded NGC PF 69 Cameo (Session 3, lot 3066), with an estimate of RM12,000 to RM20,000 (about $2,700 to $45,00)
  • a Malaysia 1968 50 Sen - No Security Edge graded NGC MS 62 (Session 3, lot 3229), with an estimate of RM12,000 to RM20,000 (about $2,700 to $4,500)
  • a Penang 1788 VEIC 1/10 Dollar graded NGC AU 53 (Session 3, lot 3030), with an estimate of RM10,000 to RM13,000 (about $2,300 to $3,000)
