Dozens of NGC-certified gold coins from the St. Albans Collection, including several valued in the five figures, are available in the December auction.

Dozens of gold English coins from the St. Albans Collection that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are available to bidders in a Spink auction on December 8, 2022. The coins cover a period of more than 500 years, from King Edward III in the 14th century to Queen Victoria in the 19th century.

Topping the auction is an England 1684/3 5 Guineas graded NGC AU 58 (lot 52) with an estimate of £40,000 to £60,000 (about $48,000 to $72,000). This gold coin from late in the reign of Charles II shows the king on the obverse and crowned shields cruciform on the reverse. After the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, Charles II ruled England, Scotland and Ireland until his death in 1685. This coin is one of only five such examples in the NGC Census, with only one exceeding it in grade.
