The October 2022 auction also saw eye-popping prices for Massachusetts Shillings from the Salmon Collection.

TThree Double Eagles certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) each realized at least $600,000 in the Long Beach Expo US Coins Signature Auction presented by Heritage Auctions. Four other NGC-certified coins in the sale also sold for six-figure amounts.

The top NGC-certified coin in the sale was an 1866 Liberty Double Eagle that realized $660,000. Graded NGC PF 65 Cameo and pedigreed to the Trompeter Collection, this coin (lot 3373) is one of only 10 examples recorded in the NGC Census.

Struck a few years later on the other side of the country, another Double Eagle also impressed. An 1870-CC Double Eagle graded NGC AU 50 (lot 3312) realized $630,000. This Carson City issue is one of the key dates in the Liberty Double Eagle series. Out of the 46 listed in the NGC Census, there are only four examples graded higher than this one.

Meanwhile, an 1887 Double Eagle graded NGC PF 67+★ Cameo (lot 3374) realized $600,000. Pedigreed to the Miller Collection, this coin sits alone atop the nine examples in the NGC Census. It earned the NGC Star (★) Designation for exceptional eye appeal, which is highly desired by collectors.
