Posted on 10/11/2022
Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) is pleased to announce that four industry leaders who hand-sign certification labels for the NGC Signature Series program are included in the latest list of Coin World’s Most Influential People in Numismatics. They are Ken Bressett, Bill Fivaz, Miles Standish and Thomas J. Uram — all of whom have zealously fostered research, growth and the broader appeal of numismatics.
Ken Bressett
Ken Bressett is a prolific author who has written and edited numerous books and articles. For over 50 years, he edited “A Guide Book of United States Coins” (the Red Book); he now holds the title of Editor Emeritus. Recently, Bressett celebrated his diamond anniversary as a member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), an achievement emblematic of a life devoted to promoting numismatics through writing and teaching others.
Bill Fivaz
Known as an authority on die varieties, Bill Fivaz is the co-author of “The Cherrypickers’ Guide to Rare Die Varieties.” Other books by Fivaz include “Helpful Hints for Enjoying Coin Collecting,” “United States Gold Detection Guide” and “Bill Fivaz's Counterfeit Detection Guide.” In 2022, he examined a 1943 Lincoln Cent and determined it to be a new overdate: 1943/1942-S.
Miles Standish
Formerly a vice president of NGC, Miles Standish is an innovator and valued contributor to numismatics. He instrumentally led numerous modern coin certification programs for collectors and dealers, which have expanded the appeal of modern coin collecting. Standish's many contributions to the hobby were recognized in 2011 by US Mint Director Edmund C. Moy, who presented Standish with the coveted "Director’s Coin for Excellence" medal.
Thomas J. Uram
Thomas J. Uram is a lifelong collector who spearheaded the 1921 Silver Dollar Coin Anniversary Act, which was enacted on January 5, 2021. This legislation led to the creation of the 2021 Morgan and Peace Dollars, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the end of the Morgan Dollar series and the beginning of the Peace Dollar series. Recently, Uram received the Chester L. Krause Memorial Distinguished Service Award — the ANA’s highest award.
