Impressive NGC-graded Coins from Gold Rush Featured in August Auction
Posted on 7/28/2022
Several vintage coins from the California Gold Rush era that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are being offered by Stack’s Bowers. Bidding is underway for the Summer 2022 Global Showcase Auction – Session 8 Rarities Night, which will be held August 25, 2022.
One of the top coins in the auction is a phenomenal 1851 “887” Reeded Humbert $50 piece graded NGC MS 61. This was among the first coins issued by the United States Assay Office in San Francisco, a pivotal operation that regulated currency during the California Gold Rush.
The $50 gold piece was distributed during Humbert’s first year as assayer, making it a must-have for collectors looking to own a piece of numismatic history from the United States’ frontier days.
