Heritage Sale Features Jewish Revolt Coins Certified by NGC Ancients

Over two dozen coins from Jewish revolts nearly 2,000 years ago that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are being offered in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale. The coins are pedigreed to the New England Collection, and online bidding is underway for them in the World & Ancient Coins Platinum Session and Signature Auction, which will be held August 25-28, 2022.

One of the top coins from the collection is an impressive Judaea, Jewish War, A.D. 66-70 Year 3 Silver Half-Shekel graded NGC Ancients Ch AU, 5/5 Strike and 5/5 Surface (lot 34075). This coin dates from an uprising against the Roman authorities that led to the destruction of Jerusalem, including the Second Temple, in A.D. 70. Thought to be one of only a few dozen surviving examples of this year and denomination, this coin has an estimate of $20,000 to $25,000.

Another rarity from the collection is a phenomenal Judaea, Bar Kokhba, A.D. 132-135 Silver Sela graded NGC Ancients MS★, 5/5 Strike and 5/5 Surface (lot 34076). The Bar Kokhba revolt was a Jewish uprising against Romans inspired by simmering tensions from the Jewish War, including the construction of a temple to Jerusalem on the site of the Second Temple. The center of the sela depicts the Jerusalem Temple with the Ark of the Covenant in the center. This coin has an estimate of $8,000 to $10,000.
