Thomas J. Uram to Receive ANA’s Highest Honor
Posted on 5/27/2022
The American Numismatic Association (ANA) has announced that Thomas J. Uram will be this year’s recipient of the Chester L. Krause Memorial Distinguished Service Award. For his lifelong dedication and contributions to numismatics, Uram will receive the ANA’s highest award at the 2022 World’s Fair of Money in Chicago, scheduled for August 16-20. Previously, he received the Glenn Smedley Award in 2019 and the Medal of Merit in 2020 for his efforts to bring greater awareness to numismatics.
Uram spearheaded the 1921 Silver Dollar Coin Anniversary Act, which was enacted on January 5, 2021. This legislation led to the creation of the 2021 Morgan and Peace Dollars, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the end of the Morgan Dollar series and the beginning of the Peace Dollar series. The program proved incredibly popular with collectors.
After his tenure on the CCAC, Uram partnered with Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) to become part of the NGC Signature Series and exclusively hand-sign certification labels. These one-of-a-kind collectibles are available from Bullion Shark.
“As a lifelong collector, it is an honor to receive the Chester L. Krause Memorial Distinguished Service Award,” said Uram. “I look forward to continuing to promote such a great hobby that has had a tremendous impact on my life.”
“We are thrilled that Thomas Uram is receiving this prestigious award,” said Mark Salzberg, NGC Chairman. “He is a passionate numismatist who has made an unquestionable mark on the hobby.”
About the Chester L. Krause Memorial Distinguished Service Award
The Chester L. Krause Memorial Distinguished Service Award is the ANA’s highest honor, which recognizes nominees for numerous years of service to numismatics. Named after the late Chester L. Krause (1923-2016), this award is bestowed upon ANA members who have received the Glenn Smedley Award and the Medal of Merit. During his life, Krause was a philanthropist who created the publication Numismatic News in 1952. He received many awards over the years, including the Glenn Smedley Award and the Medal of Merit. Due to his outstanding service, the ANA named the Distinguished Service Award in honor of Krause.
