May the Fourth Be with Your Coins! Star Wars Coins Certified by NGC

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… that immortal phrase opens “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope,” the first movie in the groundbreaking science-fiction franchise. The entertainment universe created by George Lucas ultimately led to the birth of a new holiday in 2011. Star Wars Day is now held annually on May the Fourth (chosen because of its similarity to a popular phrase among the heroic Jedi: “May the Force Be with You.”).
Inspired by the success of the films, several countries struck special coins that feature Star Wars characters. Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) has certified thousands of these popular coins.
A Tuvalu 2012 1 Kilogram Silver $30 coin celebrates the 35th anniversary of the theatrical release of “A New Hope.” Featuring an image inspired by one of the original movie posters, the coin colorfully displays Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and other prominent characters who have become household names for fans.

Making his on-screen debut in the “Star Wars Holiday Special” (1978), the deadly bounty hunter Boba Fett became a fan favorite, which resulted in the franchise bringing him back in the recent Disney+ TV series “The Mandalorian.” In 2022, Niue released a Chibi Star Wars series, including a Silver $2 Boba Fett coin. The chibi style, marked by its short, distorted caricatures, is a favorite art form in Japan.
Debuting in 2019, “The Mandalorian” is a space western that follows Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter, who travels throughout the galaxy. This Niue 2021 Silver $2 shows the titular character in an action stance, reminiscent of many of the heart-pounding episodes.
“The Mandalorian” also showcased the wildly popular character named Grogu (also known in the show as “The Child” and nicknamed “Baby Yoda” by fans). Although biologically 50 years old, Grogu seems to have the attributes of a toddler. He was last seen reunited with Din Djarin at the conclusion of “The Book of Boba Fett.” This Niue 2022 Silver $2 – Grogu in Pod displays the adorable child in his transportation pod, as seen in the show.
