Gold Eagles - $25
2006 W EAGLE BURNISHED GOLD EAGLE G$25 MS

Description & Analysis

First struck in 1986, the Gold Eagle coin program is one of the world's most popular gold coin programs. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively.

2006 was the first year of the burnished silver and gold eagles. These are coins struck at the West Point Mint on specially prepared blanks and sport a W mint mark.

Considering the special handling, they were more expensive than their normal bullion counterparts, and therefore many less were sold than the bullion version. As you would expect, quality was good, with just over 60% garnering the grade of MS70. (6/2016)
