Description and Analysis

Liberty Head $2.50

Description & Analysis

As is the case with the double eagle of this date, both the mint state and proof versions of this coin had low mintages, some 10,960 and 80 pieces, respectively. Most contemporary collectors considered proof versions superior, and the mint state coins were neglected. However, unlike the 1891 double eagle, the proof examples of this date is far rarer than the mint state. There's just a single die marriage for circulating 1891 quarter eagles, so all coins are DDR and will be attributed as such at no additional charge.
