Description and Analysis
1931 10C MS
Description & Analysis
This issue recorded the second lowest mintage of Mercury Dimes from the Philadelphia Mint. Unlike those dated 1921(P), however, Mint State 1931(P) dimes have survived in sufficient quantity to meet the demand from collectors. Not all were released immediately, and speculators targeted this low mintage issue for hoarding when more began to surface around 1934.
Most 1931(P) dimes are less than fully struck, yet a good percentage still display Full Bands. This fact highlights the risk of relying solely on the FB designation as a measure of desirability.
