Description and Analysis
Lincoln Cents, Wheat Reverse
1956 D 1C MS
Description & Analysis
Production of cents at the Denver Mint exceeded one billion pieces for the first time, as this facility made up for the end of coining at San Francisco. Extremely common in all grades through MS 66 RD, only at the next increment, so desired by Registry participants, does the supply drop.
Hundreds of obverse dies were required for such a large production, and more than a dozen repunched D variety are known, some of them quite spectacular.
