Description and Analysis
Lincoln Cents, Wheat Reverse
1935 1C MS
Description & Analysis
This issue was widely saved by the roll when released, and fully red gems are thus fairly common. Most are well struck, such as the example illustrated, and those from worn dies may be easy avoided.
The style of 3 used in this coin's date was a regression to that of 1930. The reason for abandoning 1934's correct style was not recorded, but perhaps some bureaucrat at the Treasury Department found the long-tailed 3 objectionable.
The doubled-die obverse variety at left is a minor one, but it is nonetheless popular as the only notable variety for this issue.
