1877 is the final year for which the total sales of proof minor coins has been lost, so the figure of 900 pieces from the silver proof sets should probably be doubled.

This is not a scarce issue in proof format, but the rarity of Mint State currency pieces forces the substitution of proofs in high grade collections, and this drives up prices for the proofs. Cameo pieces, however, are quite rare.

All 1877 proof cents were coined from the newer hub having bold letters N in ONE CENT. The prominently raised right pendant of letter T in CENT is seen on one of the three die pairs used for this date.
