Description & Analysis
The mintage of cents receded sharply in 1876, as the Treasury's program of reissuing redeemed cents instead of melting them cut into the demand for new coins. Examples are scarce in all but heavily worn grades.
1876 is not known for varieties, and this is surprising given the fact that some 39 obverse dies and 53 reverse dies were prepared. While it's not certain that all were used, one would expect a few of the obverse dies to have some repunching.
