Description and Analysis

Classic Head Half Cents
1826 1/2C MS

Description & Analysis

The 1826 half cent is a common date in this series, with 234,000 pieces minted. Two die marriages are known, with each utilizing different obverse and reverse dies.

Cohen-1 is by far the more common and is easily recognized by the criss-cross pattern of die-filing lines to the right of the 6. C-2 has numeral 6 punched over a horizontal 6, though the underlying numeral is difficult to see. The reverse die for this marriage is transitional with 1828 C-1.
