Classic Head Half Cents
1825 1/2C MS

Description & Analysis

The half cents coined through 1811 proved to be enough to meet the limited public demand until 1825, when a single order for this denomination prompted a resumption of coinage. Some 63,000 half cents were produced that year.

Two obverse dies were used, these each paired with a single reverse. Cohen-1 is the scarcer of the two varieties, though it is rare only in Mint State. A fair number of Mint State C-2 half cents survive to satisfy date collectors.
