Counterfeit NGC Holder Advisory
The NGC holder and certification label employ advanced security features to protect against counterfeiting and tampering. Additionally, since October 2008 nearly every coin that NGC has graded has been imaged in the NGC holder prior to being returned to the submitter. These images, along with NGC's certification data, can be helpful to assess an NGC holder's authenticity. Images and certification data are available for free in the Verify NGC Certification tool on the NGC website as well as NGC's mobile app.
Despite these continued efforts to protect consumers, there have been attempts to counterfeit the NGC holder. These attempts are illegal and not only infringe upon NGC's registered trademarks, but also violate both the Hobby Protection Act of 1973 and the Collectible Coin Protection Act of 2014.
NGC will consider all available options to pursue those who counterfeit or tamper with NGC holders and violate NGC's intellectual property rights. NGC intends to aggressively pursue our remedies as a trademark owner under the 2014 Collectible Coin Protection Act, in the event of such a violation.
The NGC Guarantee does not apply to coins that reside in tampered or counterfeited holders. NGC will, however, assist victims of holder fraud whenever possible.
If you believe that you have a counterfeit or tampered NGC holder, or if you have seen one offered for sale, please contact NGC immediately at ConsumerAwareness@NGCcoin.com. High resolution images and any relevant information will help NGC to conduct its investigation.
We recommend that buyers of counterfeit or tampered holders contact the seller and request a refund. The seller should then follow the chain of custody to return the holder to its original seller or manufacturer.
