Description & Analysis

Denver bounced back from its oddly small production of quarter dollars in 1940 to record a much more substantial figure this year. Gems are plentiful through MS 66, with a fair number of MS 67 coins for the advanced collector. From the 1930s through the '40s Denver consistently produced the most well struck coins, and this is true of 1941-D. It is less likely to show heavy erosion lines or overpolishing of the dies. Ironically, the best struck coins tend to highlight contact marks more than mushy ones, so this is a factor in grading.

Several doubled-dies are known for both sides of the 1941-D quarter, but these vary in appeal. The better ones will be certified by NGC under its VarietyPlus Service.
