Description & Analysis

Not surprisingly, given its small mintage, the 1842(P) quarter dollar is moderately scarce across all grades and quite rare in Mint State. Most such coins are well struck when found.

All currency pieces of this date and mint feature the Large Date that became standard for 1843 and the next several years. The Philadelphia Mint coined only proofs of the Small Date.
