The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1859 is a rare date in all grades and is considered by Breen to be 'prohibitively rare (in) AU.' Only 16,093 pieces were struck and Akers only recorded the appearance in auction of 2 coins in AU over the 57-year period he surveyed for his work on this series.
