Description & Analysis

First struck in 1986, the Gold Eagle coin program is one of the world's most popular gold coin programs. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively.

1986 was the first year of gold eagle production, and therefore saw very high mintages. One ounce $50 gold eagles were the most popular, with over 1.3 million sold. This mintage wouldn't be surpassed until 1998. Quality was decent considering it was the first time striking these coins, as about 5% grade MS70 at NGC. (6/2016)
