Description & Analysis

The large mintage recorded for 1835 almost certainly included some coins dated 1834, as the earlier date is more common than this one in overall numbers. Also, study of those reverse dies common to both dates reveals that in some instances the 1835-dated pieces were coined first. A fair number of Mint State survivors have been certified, and this is generally considered a common date overall.

Five obverse dies were combined with six reverses for a total of eight marriages. These are not particularly distinctive and remain of interest only to series specialists. All are common, aside from B-3 and B-8, which are slightly scarce.
