Description & Analysis

Half dollar production continued at a steady pace during 1813, resulting in another high mintage issue. Seven obverse dies were paired with eight reverses in various combinations for a total of ten die marriages. A few of these varieties are slightly scarce, but none come even close to being rare.

The most popular variety for 1813 is one on which the engraver seemingly lost his place. This is described in the entry following this one.

Many 1813 half dollars are seriously impaired by multiple die-clashings and extreme die erosion, sometimes in combination. Certain varieties are noted for this flaw and are somewhat rare in their prime die states.
