Description & Analysis

The New Orleans Mint only struck 1,124,000 Barber half dollars in 1901. Most of these went directly into circulation, meaning few survived in high grade. Because of this, the 1901-O Barber half dollar is quite rare in grades higher than AU. Once you get to the higher uncirculated grades, the coin is extremely rare. So much so that NGC has only graded 7 examples in gem or higher. (9/2016)
