Peter Anthony: The 2006 Pandas shows a mother Panda seated next to her cub eating bamboo. It was designed at the Shenyang Mint. The 2006 20 Yuan 1/20 oz. gold Panda has a reported mintage of 62,000. Once again there are far fewer than this many available today. And it sells for a premium over “common date” coins.

The frosted areas of this coin have a creamy luster that is both beautiful and delicate. There are several areas, though, that easily show rub or wear: the body of the adult Panda and the heads of both bears as well as the fields. Most examples graded so far are either MS-69 or MS-70.

The 2006 20 Yuan gold Panda is part of three NGC Registry sets: "Gold 1/20 Ounce Panda, 1983-Date, Mint State," "Gold 1/20 Ounce Panda, 1983-Date, Mint State (Incl. Varieties)" and "Gold 1/20 Ounce Panda, 1983-Date, Mint State and Proof."
