Took a break from the nickels to get this one. I just really liked the looks of this. Normally not a fan of the brown toning, but it just seems to work on this coin. The fingerprint almost drove me away but something just kept bringing me back to this one. Pulled the trigger. Glad I did. NGC MS-63 One of my all-time favorite coins. I like the strike on the obverse. So many have a big, flat area around the hair covering the ear. ldhair, Alex in PA. and Lem E

Popular Post Truly Clean
TWO RECENT UPGRADES to my Morgan collection (that's all I collect) 1880-O MS64 and 1896-O MS61. The marks and toning on the 96 bother me. I prefer white but the 96-O is SO tough to find in MS. I think I even overpaid at $1825. Popular Post Truly Clean
II filled a BIG HOLE today! 1893-S Morgan in XF45. I was SO nervous this had shipped USPS. I am thrilled with this! I got it online from SG Rare Coins in Hawthorne, NJ. Danielle there was great to work with. My next best Morgan is an MS64 1892-CC, so this one was certainly a stretch for me. I wanted the best I could for the 93-S. Now I only have 2 holes to fill: 89-CC and 93-CC. My registry is still missing a few images, but I do have 97 coins . I don't think I'm doing some of the specialties such as overdates and overmintmarks. Any thoughts on that? Any advice on pics...I'm not a photographer, this is just on my iPhone11pro in natural light. a AcesKings, 80s Kid, ldhair and 5 others

I was really tempted to get an 1896-O graded Fine (Raw) but it wasn't that nice of a coin for the grade (the 1896-O is very high on my want list). I'm really liking the challenge of this series... almost every date/mint is scarce @ Fine or better but the only real "Stopper" is the 1892-O "Micro O" variety. I've got a long way to go but I've only been collecting for approx 2 years with less than a year devoted to Barber Half Dollars.

It is much more than cool. I'd rather have a classic design in my pocket than a Washington who is already honored on the one-dollar bill. That is why I am pushing for revisiting classic designs such as this truly magnificent example in time for our nation's 250th anniversary, or sestercentennial. leeg
In February thru April, 1924, 142,080 pieces were coined at the Philadelphia Mint with 80 pieces reserved for annual assay and 87,000 sold for a $1 each to the public. A quantity of 55,000 pieces went back to the Treasury Department, which placed the coins into circulation. Designed by George T. Morgan chief engraver of the mint, used designs suggested by Dr. John Baer Stoudt. Distributed by The National Huguenot-Walloon New Netherland Commission, Inc., Rev. John Baer Stoudt, director. Associated with the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America. Image courtesy of GC. Approved by Congress on February 26, 1923 and issued in commemoration of the three hundredth anniversary of the settling of New Netherland, the Middle States, in 1624, by Walloons, French and Belgian Huguenots, under the Dutch West India Company. Coin Description: Obverse: Profiles of Admiral Coligny and William the Silent, with their names, in small letters, below. Inscription above, ‘United States of America.’ Below, ‘Huguenot Half Dollar.’ To right of busts, ‘In God We Trust.’ Reverse: Ship Nieu Netherland, in which the first 30 families of settlers came to New York, with the dates at the sides, 1624 and 1924.
