1883 gold plated Liberty Head

I am trying to determine if this is an actual 1883 that was gold plated to pass off as $5  ... or is it a replica. The sharp lines and condition make me suspicious  but the wearing of the plating looks right.

I have never personally seen a contemporary counterfeit 1883 "no cents" Liberty nickel, and yours is genuine.  There's really no way to know with 100% certainty when yours was plated, but I like the "look" of it!

A "genuine" Racketeer Nickel would have edge reeding applied. That's still not a guarantee that the alteration dates to 1883, but the lack of reeding easily eliminates any candidate.
