Gold toned nickel in mint set

I bought an unopened box of 5-1980 mint sets and all the nickels from Philadelphia are gold toned...the Denver nickels are normal silver toned. None of the packs have been opened. Is this normal? I thought a nickel is a nickel. The toning is a little darker than the photo shows.

My opinion only; have those checked by a reputable source. Please make sure they are reputable; I lost a triple die due to a non reputable dealer who wanted to make a buck. Get them checked. Also,, do some research to see if anything like that was made that year.

Additionally, I find that nickels from the mid-70s mint sets (74-77) tend to develop an attractive purple/indigo toning around the rim while other coins in the set remain unchanged.

You'll see it on proof sets of the same era as well but less often.
